Garage Modification

I feel like I am in a constant battle with the layout of the garage. If I could I would probally knock out the back wall and extend the length by another ten feet. But as it is that is not happening. I am trying to put the home gym together. given the fact that I cannot run anymore due to abuse on my knees in the past(skateboarding, excessive running, motocross, surfing,etc,etc) I have decided to get the stationary bike out again, and train, not to the extreme but to the pooint of just feeling good. I would like to start running again, but knowing what it will do to my knees again,stops me. so that is about all. the little queen is down for her nap, no surfing this weekend, daddy duties call hope some swell sticks around for after the weekend. bye for now

005 Strange Flora

Sorry for the long pause in between postings, seems life has started anew with the arrival of SF 005. A 5'7 19 1/2 x 2 3/8 vision of beauty, as well as a beast on the water . Shaped by Chris Errico of Strange Flora Surfboards ( my brother in law, as i like to say) because it is easier to say that then Jackie's sister Jeannine's Boyfriend(quite a mouthful) the amount of time I waited for this board made it so worth it, the first paddle out with it was on a small day with chest high close-outs, but wicked little waist high waves that lined up perfectly, I as a surfer can almost always tell right away if a board is going to work, and this board works, first wave backside and a little lipper the deal was sealed. I highly regard Chris as a good shaper with only a few boards under his belt his design aspect and fine detail in the shaping carry out in his finished product, from blank to glassing he is a one man show(very, very impressive) I see good things coming for him with his shaping. How many people can say that they have an in-famliy shaper? Second session on the board proved to me even more that he is a wizard with the planer, as a swell filled in from a passing tropical depression, chest high lines with some juice and fairly rippable, saw a joy inside me not filled in a long time surfing. new boards do have a way of doing that, but once again boards that work well. only cement that feeling. speed down the line, good transition into and out of floaters, barrell action as well. her formal name is Strange Flora 005, I like to call her the dump trucket!!! kudo's Chris cant wait for the next one.... I would also like to thank Jeannine for the most radical handmade boardbag on the face of gods green earth, I wish her much luck in the pursuit of taking them to the top!!!! (picture coming soon, as well as a lik to her online shop) Now back to waiting for the next swell to fill in, there saying windswell for the nesxt couple of days...

is it to hot?

Amazing how that in the second week of july there are waves and the water is warm? strange miracle or an enviromental wake-up call? warming than usual water temps. warmer air temp? what is august going to be like if this trend keeps up... Got a nice relaxing surf yesterday morning, no one out(at least for the first hour)then the two longboarders. Turns out all I had to do was sit inside of them and just cruise down the line while they went straight, made for a very high wave count in a very short time. I also think that people who surf and are on vacation in Cape May dont realize that the wave is alot faster then most beachbreaks. I think this is due to the steep slope of the beach, but also the spot that I was at, there is a section that if you are not familiar with looks like a closeout, but it actually walls up right after that and make s for a perfect section to slash the crap out of. besides that things have been good, Jackie is offically ready for nursing school after two hours of registration. Sydney is a little ball of energy!!! nothing stops her.

Happy Fathers Day

Happy fathers day to all the fathers out there.

Well this is one fathers day that there are no waves, there were last year, but cant always ask for holiday swell, christmas and new years almost always seem to be the only holidays where for some odd reason there are waves. Unless of course it is halloween '91 but that I think is swell alot of people would like to forget. On a better note, the dredge is in avalon. This is either going to make or break the sandbars, it usually makes one's in the best places. thye have cleared the way for the T.I. surprise(which if you don't know about only breaks on long period south swell's) and with the dredge finally clearing the sandbar that was blocking the swell, it should be going off this summer!!!! enjoy this day dad's mine will be a little somber because Sydney has come down with a bug, I get to spend the day with her, but we have to take it easy..... i dont mind it gives me a little down time.

Oil america's evil

I'm sure as everyone knows, Bp's oil spill may affect this area in the near future...

As Nj surfers prepare for the upcoming summer/fall swell, the eminent threat of having our season cut short by the sneaky,crooked,backwards corperate giants who base there well being on monitary gain, not the later repercusions of a disaster like this. Makes me sick!!!! THE WHOLE REASON THIS HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE IS BECAUSE, BP WAS MORE CONCERNED WITH SPENDING MONEY TO GET THE OIL OUT OF THE GROUND FOR AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE, AND THEN NOT PROPERLY MAINTAINING THE WELL ONCE IT WAS DONE..... gives you a great feeling to know that when they put there heads down at night there not worried about there livelyhood, the welfare of other or the impact this kind of mess creates. I want to be able to surf in a clean ocean, but at what risk? all the surfer's in the florida,alabama,miss,texas,and louis.(not sure if there a large surf population there) have to now watch the shores,and wonder when it is coming, or when is it going to get better.

To be a surfer is to know the feeling you get when you paddle out catch a wave and feel the feeling you get from it, it is almost like a drug... and to take that away from people because of Bp's stupidity and greed. they may want to write checks to the local surfers so they can go on a trip and get there fix... that is all for now , just felt like I had to ge that out of my system.

this whole mess, has me pissed off, concerned, my thoughts are with all the people affected by this.....

IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS SEASON

SUMMER IS BY FAR ONE OF MY FAVORITE TIMES OF YEAR(SANS FALL WHEN THE WAVES ARE REALLY FIRING) BEING ABLE TO GET OUTSIDE SOAK IN SOME SUN, SURF SMALL WAVES, BARBAQUE(THANKS TO MY LOVELY WIFE) AND JUST AVOID THE TOURISTS AT ALL EXPENSE. LIFE OUT IN SUNNY CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, EVEN BEING SO CLOSE TO THE BEACH TOWNS ALLOWS FOR SOME PIECE AND QUIET. AFTER LIVING ON AND ISLAND, IN ONE OF THE LARGEST CLUMB OF RESORT TOWNS. i FIND THAT BEING ABLE TO SIT OUT ON THE PORCH AND HEAR NOTHING BUT PLAYING KIDS AND CRICKETS IS THE BEST NOISE EVER.... EAGLES CHANTS IN JULY MAKE ME WANT TO THROW UP IN MY MOUTH A LITTLE BIT, THAT IS SOMETHING I DO NOT AND WILL NOT EVER MISS...... SO THINGS ARE GOOD MY TRUSTY ASSISTANT IS TRYING TO HELP ME TYPE. THE LAWN IS FINALLY MOWED( A COUPLE TIMES SINCE LAST POST) STILL WAITING FOR THAT ONE GOOD THUNDERSTORM!!!!! A SHOOTING STAR THAT LASTS MORE THAN 1 SECOND, AND A RACOON( i SEE THEM DEAD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY SIMPLE SUMMER WISHES AND ALSO GLASSY BARRELS. TALK TO EVERYONE SOON

Well I have been slacking alittle in the post dept. between work and rain and my lovely daughter and wife time has been very limited, I will admit that if I had one hour to mow te lawn I would be the happiest man ever, I think it may be the rain that pisses me off the most. It's like having tickets to a relly good concert only to find out the concert got flooded out!!! that is the story of my lawn. Rain Rain go away, let me mow my lawn someday!!! there are waves so I am not complaining. The old trusty fish is still holding her ground even though the vertical cracks in the blank are a sure sign of a buckle anyday now, All is good with the family Jackie is getting all A's , nursing school soon to follow, she is going to make a great nurse, I think it is her smarts and her great people skills that will help her all the way. Sydney is growing day by day and amazes me more and more everyday. simple things are the best.

JUST READ AN ARTICLE THAT SAYS THAT SURFING IS AN "ANTI-SOCIAL" SPORT, RESEARCHERS NOTED THAT PARTICIPENTS IN THIS SPORT WERE MORE LIKELY TO BE WITHDRAWN FROM SOCIETY AND SUFFER FROM ADDICTION ISSUES? IN MY OPINION IN A WAY, SURFING IS AN ANTI-SOCIAL SPORT, BUT THE ADDICTION PART IS A LITTLE FAR FETCHED. ANTI-SOCIAL? , IF THAT MEANS DON'T CROWD ME IN THE LINEUP, OR DONT BURN ME ONA WAVE, OR WANTING TO JUST CATCH A FEW WAVES WITH NO ONE OUT, THEN MAYBE YES IT IS? BUT WHO'S TO SAY

ME PERSONALLY CROWDED LINEUP'S MAKE ME AGRRESSIVE, WANT TO GET CURSED OUT, TRY ME. BUT ALWAYS MANAGE TO FIND THE WEAK SPOT, WHERE A GOOD WAVE IS COMING, AND MOST KIDS PADDLING ARE GOING STRAIGHT.

SURFING IS A PASSIONATE SPORT YOU HAVE TO LOVE IT TO UNDERSTAND IT, MOST PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WOULD GO OUT IN FREEZING WEATHER HAVE NUMB TOES AND FINGERS, FOR WHAT? THE LOVE OF A SPORT THE FEELING OF COMING DOWN THE LINE AND WHACKING THE SHIT OUT OF THE LIP, OR PULLING INTO A NICE LITTLE BARRELL, KNOWING IF YOU DONT MAKE IT A NICE COLDFLUSH THROUGH YOUR SUIT AWAITS YOU, LIKE I SAY THAT WHY YOU PEE IN YOUR SUIT , TWO CUPS OF COFFEE AND A TALL WATER IS ALL THE FREE HEAT YOU NEED!!!

The Oceans Winter Blanket

Seems that the ocean has pulled her blanket over her head and settled in for a winter nap, I think it may be from the exhaustion of constent swell up to this point, It almost seems like a human trait and every once and a while I think the ocean needs to take a break to recoupe?

PINK LEASH NO TRACTION. BASICALLY TOOK OFF SPEARED ANOTHER GUYS BOARD WENT THROUGH THE WASHING MACHINE, UP ON THE BEACH PUNCHED IN THE MOUTH.

FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH SURFING, LATER THAT DAY ENDED UP GETTING MY REAL FIRST RIDE, HELL OF A WAY TO START OUT, BUT IT JUST GOT BETTER FROM THERE.

After reading my last post from how long ago it was, time has kind of changed that outlook, with the birth of my daughter, buying a house, the economy crashing around everyone(at least anyone concidered middle class america) giving life advice is not going to work. so now on to other things.......

this blog will cover just about everything surf related family related whatever....

the start of a new year time for changes that need to be made, keeping promises to yourself are harder than yourself or anyone would ever think. time to stop smoking get on a health kick that sticks(poem and didnt know it) making 2010 a year to make the impossible possible..... thanks for listening
